Many proprietary and third-party hoops are available on the open market.
There are two main types:
Hoop type |
Characteristics |
Multi-position |
These hoops have one bracket with multiple positions to place the hoop. Most hoops in this category have three (3) stitching areas, generally referred to as position 1, position 2, position 3 or position A, position B, position C. |
Multi-position rotating |
Most of these hoops have two brackets and generally only two (2) stitching areas. However, there are some specialty hoops that have more stitching areas. After stitching one area, you take the hoop off the machine and rotate it for the second. |
Popular multi-position hoops supported by EmbroideryStudio include...
3Brother/Babylock Jumbo Small 100(W) x 172(H) (3 position)
3Brother/Babylock 360(W) x 360(H) (rotating)
3Husqvarna/Viking/Pfaff 350(W) x 360(H) mm (rotating)
3Janome/Elna Hoop MA (200x280) (2 positions)
3Brother/Babylock Extra Large 130(W) x 300(H) (3 positions)
3bernette/Janome/Elna Hoop D (220 x 190) (Giga Hoop) (rotating)
Note: EmbroideryStudio allows you to define your own multi-position hoops and save for later use. See Custom hoops for details.
Multi-position hoops work differently to Multi-Hooping where designs are split into smaller machine files for separate stitchout on a standard hoop. Instead, design components are split between two (2) or three (3) overlapping sewing fields within the one frame. Each embroidery object may fit within a single hoop position. Alternatively, you may need to split objects between sewing fields as shown...
The fact that there are multiple stitching areas has no effect until outputting designs for machine. In most cases EmbroideryStudio will only create one file. However, if a return to a previous hoop position is required, it will create two (or on rare occasions, more) files.
To export to a format recognized by your selected machine, use the Export Machine File function. The results vary depending on the machine file format. For example, PES should create a single file containing multiple parts. DST or EXP will create multiple files. Currently split files are not supported for VIP/VP3 formats.
