Borer cut design

How many borer cuts do you need for various fabrics? Only practice can tell. Cutting cotton is relatively easy. Modern fabrics with plastic yarn content may require more cuts closer together.

Steffel design

Steffel design – also known as Grid, Lattice, Checkerboard – uses a special technique. Sequence is important to avoid movement or distortion of the fabric.

Lattice shapes can vary but the key issue is to progressively cut and secure small parts at a time to avoid distortion. Below is a traditional drawing showing the correct sequence. Each stitch is shown. Borer penetrations are marked by a point or a line.

Mokha design

Mokha or Mocca is a name of Arabic origin that refers to the Yemeni old port Mokha, known for exporting Yemeni coffee. Mokha embroidery uses lines of thread form patterns inside a bored hole. The shape can be a circle or other. Again we see a traditional drawing showing every stitch.
